After completing deliveries of its first 1 lakh customer, Indian small wonder Tata Nano will get costlier by 4 %. According to the company sources, increasing input costs, especially that of steel and other commodities like rubber, had put pressure on margins leading to the inevitable price hike. “Despite a steep increase in input prices, their (retainee-customers) Tata Nanos are being priced only 3-4 % higher, depending on the model, than the price announced at launch,” said the company.

So far, Tata Motors has delivered nearly 45,000 units and expects to complete all deliveries before the end of this year due to commencement of its new plant in Sanand, Gujarat. The plant has a capacity to manufacture 250,000 units annually. The plant will run on its full-capacity ahead of its initially planned schedule and will ramp up the production of the model.
